I love baby hats. Unfortunately, babies don’t always love baby hats. While bonnets and earflap hats are cute, hats with ties are also immensely helpful to combat those grabby hands from removing hats from chilly heads.
When my daughter Junie was eight months old and the weather was getting colder I wrote this pattern. I am all about ease of adjusting fit, so top down made sense to me. This way you can increase stitches until you like the size. It is meant to have positive ease, allowing a looser fit around the head. A hat that isn’t as tight is less likely to annoy a child and cause fewer attempts of hat removal.
